Clinical Scenario:

A 46-year-old male patient was admitted to the hospital after he was struck at speed by a vehicle while he was crossing the road. As a consequence of the accident, the patient requires a traumatic above-knee amputation on his right leg. His leg was severely damaged. The wound was caused by trauma, which resulted in tissue infection and necrotic tissue in the surrounding area. The wound was irregular in shape and was occupied by slough fluid. The doctor suggested NPWT (VTG 2901) therapy for the formation of granulation tissue, the rapid wound healing process, and preparation of the wound bed.

Management:

The wound underwent multiple sessions of excisional debridement, and the application of NPWT (VTG 2901) was initiated. The therapy started with a pressure range of -125 mmHg in a continuous mode for 10 days. Two dressing changes occur in 10 10-day period. After the application, the wound showed granulation progression and an apparent reduction in exudate level. There were no signs of infection. The patient did not experience much pain. The wound bed showed vital granulation, and therapy helped to protect the peri-wound skin and wound edges closure also. After that, the device was discontinued and underwent further procedures.
